Thomas Kenny Hamall
Barbara met Thomas Kenny Hamall at the American Cancer Society offices on 57th Street in New York City. They became engaged on St. Patrick's Day weekend, 1957, and built a 53-year marriage that produced six children.
Thomas was the son of Thomas Eugene Hamall and Margaret — a family whose own story of immigration, loss, and perseverance is told in the Scattered Stones documentary biography series. Barbara welcomed Thomas's mother Margaret into their home for nineteen years, extending the O'Brien tradition of family bonds that transcend generations.
Thomas passed away in 2010. Barbara survived him by twelve years, passing in 2022.
