Jeanne Marie O'Brien Garrison

Jeanne O'Brien

The Second Daughter

Second child of Miles Murtha O'Brien and Lillian Josephine Robertson, born in 1930 in Brooklyn — two years after her sister Lillian Marie. Jeanne grew up at the heart of the family, old enough to remember the move from Brooklyn to Caldwell in 1938, old enough to remember her little sister Helen Grace before she was lost.

Jeanne served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, working as a registered nurse for both the USAF and the Navy Hospital in Orlando. She married John Leo Garrison and together they raised five children. The family moved to Central Florida in 1979, settling in Longwood, where Jeanne was a member of the Church of the Annunciation.

Jeanne passed away on February 1, 1993, at age 62, after a battle with ALS. She was the first of the three eldest O'Brien daughters to die — followed by Lillian Marie just two years later.

Military Service

United States Air Force

1st Lieutenant

United States Air Force · Registered Nurse

Jeanne O'Brien Garrison served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, working as a registered nurse. She also served at the Navy Hospital in Orlando — a career that combined her dedication to service with her training in healthcare.

She was one of three O'Brien siblings to serve in the military. Her younger brothers Miles Jr. (Colonel) and Michael (Lt. Colonel) both served in the Air Force as well — making the O'Brien twins and their sister a remarkable trio of USAF officers from a single family.

Stories & Memories

Remembering Jeanne

Three of the six O'Brien children served in the United States Air Force — and Jeanne was the first. A registered nurse who served as a 1st Lieutenant, she brought the same quiet determination to her career that her mother Lillian had brought to raising a family after losing both parents as a teenager. Jeanne's obituary listed her brothers as Col. Miles M. O'Brien Jr. and Lt. Col. Michael J. O'Brien — a single family with three Air Force officers. She lost her battle with ALS at sixty-two, eighteen years before her husband John would follow. But the family she built — five children, five grandchildren by 1993 — carried on in Houston, Kansas, California, and across Florida.
